“The Founding of Deerfield and Its Early Settlement” - Presented by Peter Thomas

This talk will explore how the Town of Deerfield lost part of its townlands so that a Praying Indian settlement could be established, and how it was granted additional lands at Pocumtuck as compensation. Thomas will address such questions as - Who settled the town? When was it granted status as a township? How did the English settlers use the land? How did the town expand? What four towns were once part of Deerfield?
